October Learning Update
This month was a busy one for Room 3. We started the month learning about Urban Forests and had guests from the City of Calgary come to visit. We also had a field trip to Fish Creek Park and learned about Orienteering as we completed a field study. The last week of October was our cricket residency in physical education.
This month we learned about...
● ecosystems in science.
● democracy and ancient civilizations in social studies.
● measurement in math (perimeter and area).
● writing using POW and TIDE.
Next month we will be learning about…
● number operations in math.
● earth changes and climate in science (weather).
● democracy and how geography effects ancient civilizations in social studies.
● adding a language box to our POW and TIDE.
Our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation…
We did a community walk to the ridge several times this month. We noticed that the trees have changed and all the leaves have fallen since the beginning of the month. We will continue to develop our relationship with the land as we practice being silence, solitude, and stationary in our sit spots. Elder Saa’kokoto came to visit us earlier this month. He spoke to us about the White Buffalo (bison). We learned that they are very rare and respected. We know that the bison are very important to the Indigenous people who live in Treaty 7.
Ask your child about:
1. What was your favourite part about learning to play cricket?
2. What is an urban forest?
Upcoming Important Dates:
