September Learning Update

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We have had an amazing start to the year! The students have been working hard to learn new classroom routines.

Each month, you will receive a classroom update. This will provide an overview of topics and concepts covered in class and will outline learning activities for the upcoming month.

Each day, your child brings home a folder which may include completed work, homework and/or important forms that need to go home or be signed. Please be sure to check this folder each night.

Our class library day is on Wednesdays. To make sure the library is ready for us, please send your child's library book back in the labeled bag by Wednesday each week.

For the month of September, the students:

  • Practiced sounding out words with blends and short vowel word families
  • Practiced using capitalization and punctuation through their journal writing
  • Learned about ourselves, our classroom, and our community
  • Reviewed the five senses and explored how to use their senses to observe, ask questions, predict, record observations and make predictions

Next month, we will:

  • Continue our work with place value and number sense
  • Start our science unit on the Needs of Plants and Animals
  • Learn about ourselves as part of a community

Important Dates:

  • September 30: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (No School)
  • October 12: Thanksgiving Day (No School)
  • October 19: Non-Instruction Day (No School)

Questions to ask your child:

  • What is the Autumn equinox?
  • What are the 5 senses?

Warm Regards,

Ms. Buckner
