School Access

Students use the front door of the school entry. For security purposes, doors are locked after morning, lunch and recess entry. Students arriving late will use the front doors and check in at the office. Students use their assigned doors for exit at the end of the day.

Visitors & Volunteers Sign In

All visitors to the school must check-in at the office. If the visitor is travelling throughout the school they will be given a “Visitor” badge to wear. Volunteers will wear a “Volunteer” badge.

Morning Supervision (8:36 – 8:44 AM)

If the temperature is -20˚ Celsius or colder, there will be a large blue circle posted on the outside doors. This indicates a “blue day," which means the students come directly into the school, remove their outerwear and proceed to their classrooms.

Recess

All Grade 1-6 students are expected to go outside for recess and lunch recess. We ask that students come suitably dressed for the weather. An indoor recess will be held when weather conditions pose a safety concern, or when the temperature is -20˚ Celsius or colder.

Playground Supervision

Supervision is provided on the playground from 12:50-1:13 PM. Students using the playground after 3:20 PM must have parental / guardian permission and parents/guardians are responsible for their child’s safety.

Picking Up Students After School

It is most efficient to meet your child at his/her designated entry/exit door. For safety reasons, we ask that parents do NOT pick up other students unless both parents have discussed this first with school office staff. Please do not use the staff parking lot for picking up/dropping off students.

Lockdowns

All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.

Video Surveillance Technology

The Calgary Board of Education may install and use video surveillance technology at select schools to support maintaining a safe and secure environment and to help control vandalism and criminal activity on school property.

Personal information gathered by video surveillance is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) section 33(b). The users of this information are the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.

This technology is considered a complement to, and not a replacement for, CBE's strategies in supporting a welcoming, caring, safe, and respectful learning and work environment for students and staff.

Approval, installation and use of video surveillance technology will comply with Administrative Regulation 1066.

For questions or concerns, please contact the school principal.
