​​Extracurricular Activities

Extracurricular activities invite students to pursue passions and interests that fall outside the curriculum. These activities can include special interest clubs, arts, music and athletics. Opportunities are offered depending on school resources. ​​

Vista Heights School Clubs (2024-25)

SWAT (Student Wellness Action Team)

Grade: Student representatives from each class, K - 6

Description: Student representatives from each class, K-6, will be meeting every second week. Our purpose of this club to create, share and teach as leaders to the rest of the school and in our classes, ensuring that Vista is a place where the well-being of the spirit, heart, body and mind is honoured and celebrated.  

Schedule: Every second Wednesday from 12:30 - 1:13 pm.


Chess + Plant Club

Grade: Div. II students (grades 4 - 6)

Description: Join us at the plant wall on the first Wednesday of the month during lunch for Chess + Plant Club! Open to all Grade 4, 5, and 6 students, this club offers the perfect blend of hands-on gardening and the strategic, calming game of chess. 

Schedule: First Wednesday of the month


Unicorn Club

Grade: 1-2

Description: Students will spend time participating in unicorn-themed activities and creating unicorn crafts.

Schedule: Every Thursday in January


Chit Chat/Journaling Club

Grade: Div. I (April 8 and 22) and Div. II (April 15 and 29)

Description: In Chit Chat Club, students will have the opportunity to talk with friends and make connections with peers. In Journaling Club, students will spend time exploring ideas and concepts and representing these through journalling, using both pictures and words.

Schedule: Every Tuesday in April


Culture Club

Grade: Div. II students (grades 4 - 6)

Description: This club is inspired by the book I Have the Right to Culture by Alain Serres. It is a fun way for students to learn about different cultures and share their own. The Culture Club is a place where students can teach and learn about cultures through art, music, stories, games, and traditions. Each session will focus on a different culture and its special customs.

Schedule: Thursdays from April 10 - May 15


Soccer Club

Grade: All students

Description: Students will be invited to participate in an organized soccer game with a teacher referee. Depending on interest, students may be divided by division (Div. I and Div. II) or competitive versus non-competitive. The club will focus on skill building and acquisition, sportsmanship, how to lose and win with grace and integrity, team work and a healthy level of competition. 

Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch starting April 15


GSA Club

Grade: Div. II students (grades 4 to 6)

Description: The goal of our GSA is to provide a safe space for individuals to share their feelings and experiences related to sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. During our meetings, we will explore resources and texts in the school library and will make visual representations to show our respect for and alliance with all individuals.

Schedule: Every second Tuesday from 12:30 – 12:50 pm.

 

Flex Friday Clubs

Grade: All students

Description: Students have the opportunity to sign up for teacher-led clubs. Some of the clubs that teachers may choose to lead are Lego Club, Painting Club, Dance Club, Soccer Club, Science Club, Languages Club or Drawing Club.

Schedule: A 45-minute period on first Friday of the month


Polar Bear Club

Grade: 3 - 6

Description: With signed parent permission, students in this club can go outside for recess, even if the temperature is as low as -30°C (with windchill), provided they are dressed in proper winter clothing.

Schedule: Lunch periods on days in which the temperature drops below -20°C


Three Left Feet Dance Club

Grade: 3- 6

Description: There will be a Dance Club at during the lunch recess for students who want some extra time learning choreography with Allara from Three Left Feet. She will focus the time on mixing and matching movements learned in regular class to create an entirely new piece of choreo. Dance Club space is very limited, so please sign up early! Students must commit to all four sessions.

Schedule: Lunch recess periods from January 20 - 23.
