Vista View | Principal's Message for June
Oki Vista Heights School Community,
It is hard to believe that June is already here! As we head into the final weeks of the school year, we look forward to celebrating student learning, growth, and the many special events that make this month so memorable.
As we approach the end of another school year, it's natural for emotions to run high, especially for students transitioning out of Vista Heights School. We understand that this can be both an exciting and anxious time for both children and parents alike. With the anticipation of new schools and experiences ahead, it's important to support our children through this transition. Encourage open communication about their feelings and reassure them that change is a normal part of life.
With warmer temperatures and longer daylight hours, we encourage families to maintain regular bedtime routines to help students arrive at school rested and ready to learn. Please also remember to send a water bottle with your child each day so they can stay hydrated during outdoor learning, recess, and physical activities.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support throughout the school year. We look forward to finishing the year strong together!
Building & School Grounds
We are excited about the many upgrades taking place around Vista Heights School this spring and summer. You may notice construction teams working to replace sections of the exterior doors. The north doors near the Grade 4–6 classrooms have now been completed, and students are once again dismissing through their regular classroom doors.
The next phase of construction will impact the gym doors before moving to the west doors near the Grade 1–3 classrooms. Once work begins on these doors, students will exit through the south mudroom doors. If you see barriers, fencing, or construction materials near these areas, please remind your child to avoid them and follow all posted safety signage.
Additional Updates:
- A request to address gopher holes on the school grounds has been submitted.
- Damage to plants near our rock garden is currently being investigated.
- Groundwork for our new Gaga Ball Pit is underway. Please help us protect this area by staying clear of the construction zone.
Field Trips, Soccer Residency, and Sport’s Day
June is an exciting month filled with field trips, outdoor learning opportunities, and special events. From June 8–12, we are thrilled to welcome a soccer residency supported by the City of Calgary Sport Hub. Students will have the opportunity to develop their soccer skills, stay active, and celebrate the excitement of the beautiful game as Canada prepares to be one of the hosts for the FIFA World Cup. We are also exploring the possibility of offering an after-school soccer club that week for students who would like additional opportunities to play and learn.
To help us prepare for field trips and special activities, please return all permission forms as soon as possible. On activity days, we encourage students to bring extra snacks and a water bottle, dress appropriately for the weather, and get a good night's sleep so they are ready to participate fully.
We are also looking forward to Sports Day on Friday, June 19. Throughout the morning, students will have the opportunity to explore a variety of yard games, challenges, and physical activities while celebrating teamwork, participation, and school spirit.
A heartfelt thank you to all our parent volunteers. Your time, support, and willingness to join us on these adventures help make many of these experiences possible. If you are interested in volunteering for Sports Day, please reach out to the school office. Families are welcome to stop by and visit that morning and play a game with their child. We are grateful for your partnership in creating memorable experiences for our students.
Nutritional Program Reminder
We are grateful to continue offering both our breakfast and lunch programs to support students throughout the school day. As we approach the end of the school year, our additional food supplies are becoming limited. While we do our best to support students when needed, we ask families to continue packing a daily snack for their child.
To help students stay focused and energized for learning, we encourage healthy snack choices such as fruits, vegetables, cheese, yogurt, crackers, or granola bars. Please avoid sending pop and high-sugar foods or drinks whenever possible.
Thank you for your partnership in supporting the health and well-being of all students.

Grade 6 Celebration & Farewell | Assembly Invitation for Parents/Guardians
We are excited to invite you to a special Grade 6 Farewell Assembly on Wednesday, June 24 from 10:00-11:00am at Vista Heights School. This event is an opportunity for us to honour and celebrate our wonderful Grade 6 students as they prepare to move on to grade seven.
Each student is welcome to invite two guests to attend the assembly. If your family is hoping to bring additional guests, please call the school office to inquire about space availability.
Following the assembly, students will enjoy a special lunch and afternoon of fun activities planned just for them. Please note that the afternoon portion is for students only.
To help us plan what size of cake we order, we kindly ask families to RSVP their attendance! J
School Council | Fundraisers & Thank You!
A huge thank you to all the parents and friends of the community who supported our school in various ways. We had a great turn out for our honour tea; however, we know there were many of you who supported us in various ways to make this school year fun and engaging. THANK YOU!
A special thank you to the parents/guardians that regularly attend our School Council meetings. The efforts of these committed individuals support the entire school and all of the students and ensure that field trips are covered at zero cost to parents and support school wide residencies as well.
Reminder that our last council meeting of the year is Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at 6:00pm.
