Oki Vista Heights School Community,
Thank you for adjusting to online conferences this week. There is still time to sign up to connect with your child’s teacher either Thursday or Friday. Reminder that there is no school for kindergarten children on Thursday and Friday is a non-instructional day for all.
We hope everyone has a wonderful spring break and Eid Mubarak. We look forward to welcoming students back Monday, March 31, 2025.
April calendars will be sent home today with the oldest (and only) child in the family.
Book Fair | March 18-20
Thank you to all the students and families who participated in our Scholastic Book Fair this year! This shopping experience is always a highlight for students, and we were so happy that we could continue this tradition during the CUPE strike in an alternative way. Students can visit twice, once to view and create a wish list and second to purchase books if they have permission from their families. Parents are welcome to come visit themselves upon arrival and dismissal.
Grade 6 | Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs)
In May and June of this year, Grade 6 students across the province will participate in the Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs). Grade 6 Science will not be administered in the 2024-2025 school year. Grade 6 Social Studies PAT will be administered and will continue to reflect the existing Grade 6 Social Studies program of study. Grade 6 Math and Grade 6 English Language Arts and Literature (ELAL) will be administered and will reflect the new curriculum.
Results from these tests will provide Alberta Education, school administrators, teachers, parents/guardians, students and the public with information about what students know and can do in relation to provincial standards at the end of Grade 6. Individual Student Profiles (ISPs) are available to schools in the fall of the following year.
Friends Pizza and Pasta | Fundraiser Wednesday, Apr. 9
Mark your calendars! By popular request, we are having another fundraiser date with Friends Pizza and Pasta. We hope you can take a night off from cooking and order in with 15% of proceeds supporting Vista Heights students.
Nation’s Vision Eye Exams
Annual eye exams are provided to children who have not yet accessed eyecare in the community or for children of parents who find it difficult to access eye exams in the community. This program is only for students where parents have signed up, which is about 15% of our school. The date is booked to have Nation’s Vision come to Vista Heights on April 15, 2025. Please ensure your child is at school that day if you believe you have filled out the permission form. Please contact the office if you would like to take advantage of this opportunity by signing a permission form. Learn more about Nation's Vision.
Calgary Police Services | S4
Start Smart Stay Safe (S4) is a proactive, strengths-based model of teaching and learning where police and schools partner together to actively build positive relationships, create safe communities and prepare children for the challenges of our complex, changing world. We are lucky to have a constable join our school April 23 & 24 to visit each classroom and deliver lessons around problem solving, healthy choices, respectful communication, building healthy relationships, being digitally safe, and serving others to build an inclusive, resilient community. 2024-2025 School Planning | Will you be at Vista Heights Next Year?
Spring is when all schools receive their annual budgets and determine their staffing needs for the following school year. As we begin planning for the 2025-2026 school year, we ask that families let the school know if they are planning on attending a different school for the upcoming school year (orange sheet).
