Honouring Diversity and Inclusion at Vista Heights School
In our school community, we celebrate and embrace the richness of diversity, understanding that our students come from a variety of cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds.
We are committed to acknowledging and accommodating various cultural practices and religious celebrations the best we can throughout the school year.
For example, Indigenous students may request space and time for ceremony, Vista Heights School has smudge materials for any student who may benefit from their spiritual practice during their day.
We also recognize the importance of aligning our support with the dynamic nature of prayer schedules for Muslim students and will do our best to accommodate variations that may arise due to the changing seasons. Vista Heights School has some prayer mats and students are welcome to bring their own.
While we will provide a safe space for students to voluntarily engage in their religious practices, we cannot monitor or control whether each student chooses to participate in prayer daily. In accordance with the CBE’s Administrative Regulation 3067-Religion in Education, we will do our best to accommodate religious practices with the goal of finding balance between honoring religious practices and minimizing disruption to the academic schedule.
We appreciate your support in fostering a diverse and inclusive environment within our school community. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact the school administration.
