Vista View | November & December
|
Good Morning Vista Heights School Community, Thank you for your patience and support as we make required adjustments to our 2025-2026 school plan in response to recent labour-related disruptions. We are incredibly grateful for such a supportive community. This month we were grateful to still move forward with both our skating and basketball residencies, funded by Vista Height’s School Council Enhancement Society, and students truly enjoyed every moment of them. As the weather continues to change, we ask for your support in ensuring students come to school dressed for winter conditions. Please make sure your child has warm boots, snowpants, a winter hat, and mitts or gloves each day so they can enjoy outdoor play comfortably and safely. We also recommend labeling all items, as winter gear can be easily misplaced. Thank you for helping us keep our students warm, prepared, and ready to learn! Student Learning Conferences | Nov 27 & Dec 5 Reminder that Student Learning Conferences are now available to book using your MyCBE account. Please note that booking times are only 15 minutes in length.
There is no supervision available between dismissal at 3:20pm and conference start time, so please arrive on time to pick up your child so that teachers receive the necessary break to prepare for their long day. Technical support for booking, editing, or deleting a booking can be found on the Technical Support for Students & Parents. Central Fees & School-Based Fees The Government of Alberta’s School Fees Regulation sets out the requirements and limitations related to the fees that a school board may charge parents of students. There are different types of fees.
Fees are now visible on your MyCBE account. Payment can be made online or directly at the school using debit/credit card. Please call ahead to make arrangements at the school to pay fees. Please note that lunchroom supervision fees have been adjust for October to ensure families are charged only for the instructional days when these services were provided to students. https://cbe.ab.ca/registration/fees-and-waivers/Pages/default.aspx Central Fee Waiver Support | During Conferences Families may be eligible for fee waivers. We are excited to share that a CBE Fee Liaison will be attending our student conferences on Thursday, November 27, 2025, 4:30-7:30pm to offer families support. If you are hoping to get support on how to apply for fee waivers, please visit the school on Thursday, November 27 with one of following documents to be eligible.
If you are unable to make this date, please call the school so that we can share your name with the Fee Liaison to support an alternate appointment date. Classroom Learning Updates & Online Supports Teachers share a monthly update, which is sent via SchoolMessenger and uploaded to our school website here. Additionally, we are excited to share that the school has purchased two online software accounts that parents can access at home. Please email your child’s teacher for password and login information. Student Software: Raz-Kids | Reading program purchased for L&L and Grade 1-3 students Students can listen to stories, read at their own pace, and even record themselves reading. After each book, they complete a short quiz to check their understanding. As they successfully complete books and quizzes, they automatically move up to the next reading level. Mathletics | Math program purchased for Grade 3-6 students Mathletics works with your child at their ability level and brings out the joy of learning math through fun activities, games and competition. Reinforces schoolwork and classroom learning, catch up on difficult topics or challenge your child with new concepts. School Development Plan Our School Development Plan will be available on the Vista Heights website for your review by the end of the month. Over the three-year cycle, our primary focus continues to be on strengthening students’ written communication skills. Last year, we concentrated on developing foundational writing skills, including encoding (spelling) and syntax, to support students’ ability to construct clear and accurate sentences. This year, as we move into Year 2 of our plan, we are building on that foundation by focusing on text structure, helping students understand how to organize their ideas into well-formed paragraphs and cohesive written pieces. Writing remains an essential component of student learning and assessment as they progress through the grades, and we are committed to supporting their growth in this critical area. Trickster Theatre | December 8-12 We are excited to share that Vista Heights will be welcoming artists from Trickster Theatre for a residency taking place in December. This experience is made possible through the support of both our School Council Enhancement Fund and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) grant, allowing all students to participate. Throughout the week, students will collaborate with Trickster artists to create original, movement-based pieces connected to their learning, culminating in a school-wide performance at the end of the week that parents will be invited to attend. We look forward to this creative opportunity and to celebrating students’ work together. School Council | Fundraiser Reminders
